On 18 September 2026, the Laboratory of Soil Mechanics welcomed Professor James Tang, Secretary-General of the University Grants Committee Secretariat in Hong Kong, to EPFL. Professor Lyesse Laloui gave Professor Tang a tour of the lab, and the visit centred on discussions of research collaboration between EPFL and Hong Kong’s universities.
The two agreed to explore further opportunities for joint research funding in the near future. The visit follows Professor Laloui’s appointment in 2026 to the Engineering Panel of the Research Grants Council’s Joint Research Schemes, which fund joint research projects between Hong Kong institutions and partner agencies abroad.
