The exposome
An individual’s exposome can be defined as the sum of all of that individual’s exposures to their environment. Studying an individual’s exposome makes it possible, among other things, to identify potential health risks associated with exposure to various components of their environment.
Indeed, numerous studies have highlighted the close link between the living environment (natural, socioeconomic, and sociodemographic) and the health of a population. The World Health Organization estimates that environmental stressors are responsible for 12 to 18% of deaths in the 53 countries of the WHO European Region. Thus, the living environment in which an individual lives can provide valuable information to general practitioners, both in the context of diagnosis and from a preventive perspective.
Thus, the goal of this project is to build a Web-GIS interface that provides information about an individual’s living environment. To achieve this, every inhabited hectare in Switzerland was characterized by several criteria, allowing us to assess the population’s exposure to various components of their living environment within that hectare.
Criteria Presented
Four criteria were used to build this interface: a vegetation index (NDVI), nighttime traffic noise, air pollution, and average income.
