Inclusion of disabled people is based on the Federal Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against People with Disabilities (Disability Discrimination Act, DDA) and its compensatory measures of discrimination. These measures aim at reducing discrimination due to disabilities without modifying learning objectives.
Procedure
- Student Affairs (SAE) informs students and collects all applications
- The Commission “des aménagements” analyses each application and approves / refuses it
- The granted arrangements are sent to the students for approval
- SAC-Examen sends a list of all students with study arrangements to all teaching staff involved two times each semester (before midterms and regular exam sessions)
Teaching staff is not autorised to decide concerning exam arrangements (written or oral exams). The Commission examines every application turned in by students precisely and considers the personal situation of every single students and their education training as a whole.
Students with a disability which affects academic results have the right to demand to compensate disadvantages if these have been documented by a specialized service or physician.
This needs to be done by submitting a complete study arrangement (hereafter arrangement) request to Student Affairs (SAE).
The Commission examines arrangement applications for exams (oral or written exams) or lectures (TP).
The Commission can ask for the advice of a medical examiner in very specific cases to understand what are the limits and problems linked to situations with a particular disability.
Members of the Commission: teaching staff (two teaching staff, one from the VPA-E), one person from the VPA-SAO, SAE, SAC-Examen.
Arrangements approved by the Commission are organized for exam sessions and mid-terms. Details regarding study arrangements for exams will be provided to professors twice per semester.
Exemple of arrangements: more time or a tablet during exams may be approved. For lectures during the semester (also TPs) and according to the type of disability or chronic illness, the SAE may organise specific material (special tables, automatic doors, etc.)).
