EDBB For PhD Students

For documents you are submitting to the doctoral school/program, please sign them (in person or electronically) together with your thesis director (plus your co-director when applicable) and email them in pdf format to the EDBB program administrator. She will then present them to the EDBB Program Director to approve before emailing them on to the doctoral school.

  • 1st year: All EDBB students are required to attend 16 talks in the Weekly BioEngineering Talks within the first year of their PhD studies. Please forward your completed attendance sheet & the organizer’s email comfirmations of any Zoom sessions you attended to EDBB before passing your candidacy exam.
  • 1st year: Please note that taking the EDBB course Responsible Conduct in Biomedical Research (BIO-664) is mandatory for all first-year EDBB PhD Students.

  • 2nd, 3rd & 4th year: Annual follow-up meeting to be held prior to starting your annual report.
  • 3rd year: Each EDBB student should give a presentation in the frame of the monthly IBI-EDBB Mini-Symposium at least once before their private defence, preferably during their 3rd year. See BIOENG-600

According to the EPFL rules and to the PhD job description, each PhD student is required to participate in undergraduate teaching. These teaching duties do not give any graduate credits.

Microsoft Research PhD Scholarship support projects in many I&C fields, but also in computational science. The support is provided through funding, as well as collaboration with Microsoft Research Cambridge.
