The family allowances received by EPFL staff may be slightly higher than cantonal standards thanks to the ETH Domain supplement.
Family allowance amounts are indexed based on age and situation.
Conditions
- The allowance is paid for dependent children under the age of 16.
- It can be extended up to the age of 25 if the child is in post-compulsory education.
Allowance Amounts (2026)
- First child: CHF 4,628.40 per year (CHF 4,626.- in 2025)
- Second child and beyond:
- Under 16 years: CHF 2,944.20 per year (same as in 2025)
- From 16 years: CHF 3,312 per year (same as in 2025)
These amounts include the cantonal allowance and the ETH Domain supplement. If the cantonal allowance exceeds these amounts, no supplement is paid.
Birth Notification
- Please report your child’s birth as soon as possible by sending a copy of the birth certificate or family record book.
- The People Operations department will ask you to complete and return a Family Allowance Application form (PDF), along with the required documents.
