Creation and development of 8 composting areas

Description of the internship

The aim of the project is to make women’s economic and social independence sustainable, to protect the environment and the health of local residents by combating unsanitary conditions, and to improve agriculture by fertilising the soil organically. To achieve this, the project proposes to set up a composting site for treated waste in each of the 8 villages in the rural commune of Kouma.

Each site will have its own well, enabling:

  • produce high-quality compost by means of regular automatic watering using Arduino, which will moisten the compost during the dry period of the year;
  • increase the quantity of compost produced, also by means of watering;
  • create a source of drinking water in the neighbourhood, which currently has none.

Planned activities:

  • Participate in the design of composting areas;
  • Participate in the installation of composting areas;
  • Carry out humidity measurements to optimise composting conditions;
  • Suggest improvements at the end of the course.
