Romania’s National Day PARTY

Grab your friends and come together to celebrate the National Day of Romania.
 
Even if we have classes tomorrow, Romania’s National Day is just once per year and need to celebrate what we do best: with a Romanian dinner party 🙂 As usual we will have food, drinks, good music and fun prizes.

ARCH-I, A/RO and the Pole-Sud Cultural Center invite you to an event dedicated to the Romanian Rrom community. Free entrance.

Schedule:
8.30 pm- 9.30 pm, simultaneous projection (on three giant screens) of photos from Romanian Rrom camps, made by the famous Swiss photographer Yves Leresche .
9.30 pm- 10pm, the journalist Lydia Gabor from Radio Suisse Romande, will moderate a discussion about the Rroms situation.
10pm-11pm, movie projection: “Fanfaron, Fanfaron” by Corneliu Gheorghita, a Roman cineaste established in France.
11pm-2am, the discussions can continue around a drink in the Pole Sud bar.

Romanian movie night

“15 years ago, Luiza decided to make a fresh start in Spain. She left her 3-year-old daughter Cristina in the care of her relatives and took off. When she returns to Romania, the woman learns some shocking truths that were kept hidden from her: Cristina ran away from home, is a drug addict and has a 2-year-old girl who lives in an orphanage. Overwhelmed by guilt, Luiza attempts to save her daughter and thus redeem the mistakes of her youth. To do that, she’s got a tight time frame: one weekend…”

Book launch

A/RO en collaboration avec ARCH-I annoncent le lancement du livre : « Eurotextes. Le continent qui nous sépare » de Mircea Vasilescu*, préfacé et traduit par Ioana Bot.

A l’aube du nouveau millénaire, la nouvelle Roumanie, libre et démocratique, reste difficile à cerner. Les Eurotextes de Vasilescu entreprennent de l’expliquer à un public étranger: le «cas» de la Roumanie postcommuniste et européenne est en soi exemplaire de la réalité et des aspirations de ce cher continent qui nous est commun.

La présentation et la signature de ce livre, ainsi que le débat se fera en présence de l’auteur, Mircea Vasilescu, de la traductrice, Ioana Bot, et d’Ambroise Barras de la part des Editions MetisPresses.

* Mircea VASILESCU est rédacteur en chef de l’hebdomadaire culturel roumain Dilema Veche (www.dilemaveche.ro). Il enseigne à l’Université de Bucarest l’histoire littéraire ainsi que le journalisme culturel et coordonne le programme de DEA en „ Théorie et pratique de l’édition”.

Reading with Eugène

An hour of reading with Eugène Meiltz, famous Swiss writer of Romanian origin.

“Né à Bucarest six jours avant que l’homme ne marche sur la lune, Eugène débarque dans un monde encore plus étrange, la Suisse, en 1975. Après avoir fini l’UNIL en 1994, il se consacre entièrement à
l’écriture. Romans, chroniques, contes pour enfants, pièces de théâtre sont quelques-uns de ses champs d’exploration. Son père, ingénieur en physique l’a marqué avec cette phrase: “Je n’ai plus aucune velléité à être un homme normal”. Eugène si…

Eugène lira des extraits de La Vallée de la Jeunesse, (éd La Joie de Lire, Genève, 2007), un roman autobiographique racontant sa jeunesse à travers 20 objets: 10 qui lui ont fait du bien et 10 qui lui ont fait
du mal. Et également des extraits du Dernier Mot (sorti il y a un mois), un savoureux recueil de chroniques parues dans la revue d’architecture Tracés.”

Romanian movie night

“To the east of the Carpathian montains, in Romania, lies Moldova, the last eastern province of the European Latin culture. The center of this region was once called Bacovia – the Latin Bacchus Bacchus.

Here at the end of the year, the spirits of the dead out of the graves, put their masks and come and go freely. To exorcise these spirits and to wash the sins of the whole community, during the pagan celebrations of the winter meet in the Moldovan bacchanalia delusional and … “

Réunion roumaine à Vevey

January the 10th, near Eminescu’s statue in Vevey

Ten years have passed from revealing Eminescu’s statue on Leman Lake’s shore. The statue was made by the sculptor Andreia Bove and offered by the Romanian Embassy in Bern to the city Vevey. There is a tradition that every year, in January, the Romanians in Switzerland reunite in Vevey to celebrate the poet’s birthday.
