School of Computer and Communication Sciences IC

The Master’s in Computer Science offers a broad education across computing disciplines, including algorithms and theoretical computer science, artificial intelligence, software engineering, computer systems and networks, distributed computing and security and privacy. The curriculum also covers areas such as computer graphics, computer vision and programming languages. Students can tailor their studies through four specializations: AI & Data Science, Computer Systems, Foundations of Computing, and Cyber Security. Combining strong theoretical foundations with advanced coursework and research projects, the program prepares graduates to tackle technological challenges and pursue careers in industry or research.

The Master’s in Data Science offers an interdisciplinary education combining mathematics, computer science, statistics and machine learning. The program covers areas such as machine learning, algorithms, natural language processing, databases, signal processing and information theory. Students can tailor their studies through a wide range of elective courses or the option to pursue a minor. Combining strong theoretical foundations with advanced coursework and research projects, the program prepares graduates to analyze complex data, extract valuable insights and tackle challenges across sectors such as healthcare, finance and digital technologies.

The Master’s in Cyber Security, jointly offered by EPFL and ETH Zurich, provides an in-depth education in computer security. The program covers a broad range of disciplines, including cryptography, formal methods, and the security of computer systems, networks and digital infrastructures. Students benefit from the complementary expertise of both institutions and a wide choice of courses to tailor their studies. Combining strong theoretical foundations with advanced coursework and research projects, the program prepares graduates to tackle cyber security challenges and pursue careers in industry, research or the public sector.

The Master’s in Digital Humanities offers an interdisciplinary education at the intersection of the humanities, data science, and computing. The curriculum covers data acquisition and analysis, audio and image processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, data visualization, and digital culture. Its distinctive feature is the focus on human-centered approaches and the study of cultural, historical, and social data throughout the entire data lifecycle, from acquisition and organization to analysis and visualization. Through rigorous theoretical training, advanced courses and research projects, graduates gain the skills to address digital transformation challenges in a variety of sectors, both in industry and research.
