The CIME is EPFL’s central electron microscopy facility, supporting research in solid-state physics, materials science, chemistry, and life sciences. With 17 instruments, including 7 TEMs and 8 SEM/FIBs, CIME provides a broad range of advanced electron microscopy techniques and scientific support to EPFL research groups, external academic institutions, and industry partners under confidentiality agreements.
Since the inauguration of the EPFL Energypolis campus in Valais, CIME has been committed to providing electron microscopy services and scientific support to EPFL Valais Wallis research groups. To this end, CIME operates a satellite platform equipped with a probe-corrected Spectra 200 S/TEM, a high-resolution low-vacuum Teneo SEM, and a Tecnai Spirit 120 kV TEM, offering a broad range of imaging and analytical techniques.
At CIME, we are always available to discuss specific user needs that go beyond standard measurements. For users who require CIME’s expertise without becoming fully trained instrument users, we provide scientific support in designing and conducting electron microscopy experiments.

New users of CIME Valais
New users at EPFL Valais Wallis are invited to contact Dr. Emad Oveisi to discuss their specific scientific needs. Users interested in instrument training should consult the CIME training page. Appropriate theoretical knowledge and a basic understanding of the relevant electron microscopy technique are prerequisites for hands-on training.
