What We Test in JORDI
JORDI is a large cryostat, historically used for testing high-current leads – the components that bring current from room temperature to a cryogenic temperature of 4.5 K. Nowadays we use it for testing medium-size coils. Unlike SULTAN and EDIPO 2, there is no background field in JORDI, and the test objects are therefore tested only in their self-field. Its sample space, however, is significantly larger.
Key Parameters
| Parameter | Value |
| Background field | 0 T (test only in self-field) |
| Sample space | |
| Sample current | Up to 10 kA |
| Cooling of the sample | supercritical He, 10 bar, up to 5 g/s |
| Temperature range | 5-10 K |
Testing with us
JORDI is available for collaborative and contractual testing. Contact us if you are interested.
Two coils were tested recently:
- The LASSO coil was manufactured in-house at SPC. It focused on testing quench detection in HTS conductors using temperature-based methods — optical fibres, co-wound superconducting wire and a thermocouple chain.
- The JIANTS coil was the first test coil manufactured by Proxima Fusion. JIANTS’ primary objective was manufacturing R&D, and the testing of a novel quench-protection scheme called SCIPI, designed for non-insulated stellarator coils.
