As preparations for summer fieldwork ramp upâand with some campaigns already underwayâ our team recently had the chance to connect with the global scientific community at the EGU General Assembly in Vienna.
Several members of our lab attended, contributing with oral presentations or poster sessions showcasing their current projects.
The experience proved to be highly enriching, and they returned inspired and full of fresh ideas.
EGU was also a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends and colleaguesâand to meet new ones, sparking potential collaborations for the future.
Charlotte and Giovanni also co-organized a session on climate extremes and vegetation, which was a great successâdrawing strong interest and sparking lively discussions. We hope to continue this session in next yearâs edition of EGU.
On top of this, weâre pleased to share some excellent news: two new scientific publications from our team!
The first, led by Christoph, explores how urban trees maintain high transpirational cooling even during extreme summer heatwaves. [Here is the link to the article.]
The second, authored by Helena, investigates the false dichotomy between coniferous and broad-leaved treesâand the critical consequences this distinction holds for ecological research and modelling. [Hereâs the link to the paper.]
And finally, weâre excited to welcome a new member to our team!
RĂ©my Perret, from the University of Geneva, has just started his Masterâs thesis, which will focus on drought tolerance in grapevines from the Valais region (CH).
In particular, Rémy will investigate how grapes cope with drought stress and how this tolerance evolves over the course of the summer.
