Mechanical modelling of reinforced concrete

Model of a planned panel tester, used to subject reinforced concrete specimens to any in-plane stress state

Improving our numerical models for the behaviour of reinforced concrete will lead to less uncertainty in the design and assessment of concrete structures. Our research characterizes the overall behaviour of cracked concrete as a function of the behaviour of the crack interfaces. This numerical modelling can be used both for design of new structures to optimize material usage, as well as for the assessment of existing structures to avoid replacement when it is not necessary.
