ARCHITECT
STUDIO DIRECTOR
Flavio Gorgone is an architect and sound artist that graduated from EPFL in 2023. Their practice operates at the intersection of landscape architecture, small-scale construction, scenography, and acousmatic composition, treating sound not as an atmospheric layer, but as a primary structural and territorial material.
Deeply informed by their experience in river renaturation and ecological engineering, Flavio views the architectural project fundamentally as a site-specific practice. They approach the sonic environment as an immaterial architecture, a series of contact zones where field recordings, urban noises or living murmurs are assembled into shelters, hideouts, or cathartic cathedrals. Their research explores sleep as a threshold of consciousness and a site of political resistance, investigating how the passive body occupies the public sphere. At ALICE, Flavio encourages students to deconstruct visual certainty in favor of a multi-sensory understanding of the built and natural environment, where depth is audible and every landscape is understood as a complex composition of spatial and sonic traces.
