Excursion to Lavaux

Scheduled for the start of the semester, this hike provides an excellent chance to discover the area and its heritage, while connecting with fellow students and building new friendships. 

Leaving Lausanne train station at 9:57 a.m. for Puidoux, our journey begins up in the hills, which boast breathtaking vistas of the lake and terraced vineyards. 

Next, following the scenic “chemin des vignes” (vineyard path), we will reach Saint-Saphorin to explore its local archaeological site. This historic village served as a key trading post and pilgrim stop, where monks originally built their monastery and launched wine production. 

We will later head down to Rivaz beach for a lakeside picnic, using this downtime to socialize and bond. 

At roughly 2:00 p.m., we will visit the Lavaux Vinorama, a central hub for regional wines, to enjoy a tasting of three distinct white wines (3 x 0.4 dl). To start, a 20-minute documentary will highlight seasonal vineyard management and the annual winemaking cycle. Naturally, this wine tasting is entirely optional. It comes served with regional appetizers (cheeses, dry sausages, breadsticks); hence, non-drinkers can opt for a soft drink while savoring the local dairy selection. 

Our trek will resume across the vineyards toward Cully to board our return train, aiming to arrive back in Lausanne between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
