Student halls

• Check the student’s halls websites regularly to find out about registration procedures and dates (usually two sessions per year: fall and spring).
• Registration dates are often announced only a few days or weeks in advance.
• It is essential that you meet the registration deadlines: some registration periods last only 1 to 5 days.
• Don’t wait until you’ve been admitted to EPFL to submit a housing application.
• Depending on the student’s hall, you may be asked for your EPFL application number (which you receive when you submit your online application).
• Submitting a housing application is non-binding: you can decline an offer as long as the lease hasn’t been signed.
• Prepare a complete application by providing all the required documents to increase your chances.
• Don’t be too restrictive in your search criteria.
• Submitting an application does not guarantee that you will be assigned housing.
• Apply to multiple residences to maximize your chances.
• Be patient: housing is assigned gradually based on availability.
• For the September academic year, assignments generally take place between July and August.

These are furnished apartments reserved for students. The main options are:

Flatshare room
Private room for one person. The bathroom, the living room, and the kitchen are to be shared with the other flatmates (generally 2 to 8 flatmates). Sometimes the room has its own bathroom

Single dorm room
Private room with a private bathroom. The living room and the kitchen are to be shared

Studio for 1 or 2 people
Studio with a private kitchenette and private bathroom
