BIOGRAPHIES

“Boulouki – Itinerant Workshop on Traditional Building Techniques”. Founded in 2018, based in Athens and active in various locations in Greece, Boulouki is a research-and-practice collective, dedicated to the study of traditional craftsmanship as an embodied and inherently situated form of knowledge. Our activities encompass ethnographic fieldwork, applied seminars and participatory building projects, organized in collaboration with local communities and international institutions and experts. In Greek Boulouki means “gaggle”, travelling group, a name evoking the travelling companies of stone masons and craftspeople.

Ionas Sklavounos is a founding member of Boulouki. He graduated in architecture from the University of Patras and completed his post-graduate studies on the Epistemology of Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens, where he also worked as Teaching Assistant. He is currently completing his doctoral studies at the University of Antwerp, within the Marie Curie Network “TACK – Communities of Tacit Knowledge: Architecture and its ways of Knowing”.
