“A genuine community was created around this research project”

Over 700 volunteers took part in the Lémanscope citizen-science initiative, taking upwards of 3,400 measurements on Lake Geneva. This high turnout was a welcome surprise for the project team. We spoke with Natacha Pasche, the scientist behind the initiative, which will come to a close in February, 2026.

500 volunteers needed to give Lake Geneva a check-up

EPFL has teamed up with three organizations – the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag), the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and the Association for the Safeguard of Lake Geneva (ASL) – to develop Lémanscope, a citizen-science initiative to monitor the health of Lake Geneva. Today the researchers are calling on volunteers to help collect essential data.

LéXPLORE opens its virtual doors

Floating on Lake Geneva since 2019 is the globally unique research laboratory called LéXPLORE. Now anyone interested can visit the platform virtually, at any time and from anywhere, and learn more about the instruments, the data collected, the research projects and the goals of LéXPLORE.
