September 2-4, 2026 | Hybrid Event at EPFL & Swissnex in Japan

Empowering Breakthroughs, Energizing the Future
The energy transition is transforming electricity systems worldwide. As renewable energy sources such as solar and wind continue to expand, ensuring reliable, resilient, and sustainable electricity grids has become one of the defining challenges of our time.
The Swiss-Japan Energy Days 2026 will bring together leading experts, innovators, policymakers, researchers, startups, and industry leaders from Switzerland and Japan to explore breakthrough developments in energy systems, grid resilience, and demand management.
Held simultaneously at EPFL in Switzerland and Swissnex in Japan, this three-day hybrid event will focus on the opportunities and challenges created by increasing integration of stochastic renewable energy sources into modern electricity grids.
Swiss-Japan Energy Days 2026 is organized by Swissnex in Japan in close collaboration with the EPFL Energy Center, the Energy Science Center of ETH Zürich, and Empa.
Join us in shaping the future of resilient, sustainable, and intelligent energy systems.
Why This Matters
Electricity grids are complex, highly dynamic infrastructures that underpin modern economies. In both Switzerland and Japan, renewable electricity generation already represents a significant share of total production. While this transition supports decarbonization goals, it also introduces new challenges related to grid stability, flexibility, storage, and resilience.
Topics addressed during the event include:
- Grid stability and ancillary services
- Large-scale energy storage solutions
- Power-to-X and sector coupling technologies
- Renewable energy integration and infrastructure planning
- Reactive power protection and grid optimization
- Electricity demand management across industry, mobility, and residential sectors
- The growing impact of AI applications and data centers on electricity demand
- Energy security and resilience against disruptions and supply shortages
