Katerina Kourkoulou

I completed my Bachelor's degree in Physics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, followed by a Master's degree in Applied Physics at TU Delft. As a PhD student, I am studying emergent patterns arising from the collective dynamics of cilia. My research focuses on exploring the role of hydrodynamic coupling in synchronization and metachronal wave formation within cilia arrays. Towards this goal, I work with ultrafast microscopy using the ciliate Didinium nasutum as my experimental model system. In my free time I enjoy sketching and reading. I am also interested in exploring nature and often hike on the mountains.
