Research

Particle Accelerator Physics Laboratory (LPAP) research projects are carried out at major accelerator facilities.

At the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) the laboratory is engaged in development of novel bright synchrotron light sources, including the future X-Ray Free Electron Laser project SwissFEL.

High intensity proton beams are used to produce powerful sources for neutron scattering and bright muon beams.

Projects at CERN include work on future upgrades of LHC and associated accelerators, as well as research and development towards the future high energy frontier electron-positron linear collider project CLIC.

Developments of accelerator applications for life sciences include hadron therapy of tumors and coherent sources of X-rays for phase-contrast imaging.
