By plane / public transport
Lausanne is directly accessible from Swiss airports by train. From the Geneva airport, the ride is 40-50 minutes and at least 4 trains leave for Lausanne every hour. From the Zurich airport, the ride is about 2.5 hours, and at least 3 trains leave for Lausanne each hour. More information can be found at the Swiss public transport site, an app for mobile devices is also available.
At the Lausanne train station (“gare”), exit the station towards the town (away from the lake). Cross the road and immediately look for the metro station labelled “M2”, the station is inside a covered area to the right of the McDonald’s. Go down the stairs / escalator on the right side, corresponding to the direction“Croisettes.” Get off at the next stop (“Lausanne – Flon”), and go up one level to the metro “M1”, direction “Renens – Gare”. This will bring you to EPFL in approximately 15 minutes.
At “Mobilis” ticket vendors, a ticket for 2 zones (11 and 12) will cover transport around Lausanne and EPFL. If you stay at the hotel, you will get a transport card with free access to all public transport services in Lausanne.
By car
Approaching from Geneva or Bern, exit at “LAUSANNE SUD”. Then leave the highway at the “EPFL” exit. You will now be on the “Route du Lac”. There are two ways into EPFL. Take the second, which is located just before a traffic light, then follow the blue parking icons.
Avoid parking on the green places, they are reserved for students and employees. Look on the map for the “P” sign in a square to find the visitor’s places.
