A building can appear to the viewer as a single object, a silhouette. This simple image belies an inherent complexity. Architects are in the fortunate position of working with the multiplicity of people, stories, layers and processes that comprise a building.
Through examples like the IOC Headquarters, Plassen Cultural Centre and the Sydney Fish Market, Jan Ammundsen would like to tell the story behind the creation of some of 3XN’s architecture. The focus for the lecture is to give the students a glimpse of 3XN’s design process from the initial investigations of site, key challenges and project constraints to the democratic design exploration and finally the building itself.

Jan Ammundsen is Senior Partner and Head of Design at 3XN Architects, where he is responsible for developing concepts and strategies for key projects to ensure the highest design quality. His involvement in each project spans from developing initial ideas all the way to the final building. Jan has been the driving force behind many of the studio’s award-winning designs including The Blue Planet Aquarium, The Royal Arena, Middelfart Savings Bank, The Cultural Centre Plassen and the soon to be completed, IOC Headquarters in Lausanne. Jan has been awarded the prestigious ”Europe 40 under 40” Award, is a member of the Danish Academy Council and a jury member in international architectural competitions.
