Research projects with persons, health-related personal data or human biological material and concerning human diseases or the structure and functioning of the human body are subject to the Swiss Federal Act on Research involving Human Beings (or: Human Research Act) and must be approved by a Cantonal Ethics Committee before they start.
Guidance is available to support EPFL researchers in the application process via the BASEC online platform.
Specifically, the four guides below address the following topics:
- What you need to know before starting your application: how to determine whether your project requires a Cantonal ethics authorization and how to submit your application via BASEC
- How to apply for Cantonal ethics authorization of clinical research
- How to apply for Cantonal ethics authorization of non-clinical research
- How to apply for Cantonal ethics authorization of further use of human samples and/or health-related data
For more information and submission of your ethics application, please contact the ReO/Ethics Affairs team via [email protected].
