The EPFL Robotics Master created a Women’s Robotics Master Admission Award for outstanding female students who wish to pursue a Robotics Master program at EPFL.
1. Goal
The goal is to attract outstanding female students and to complement the existing EPFL excellence scholarships that is awarded to 2-3 students (no gender priority), with 3-4 other awards that are targeting only female students.
2. Award
The program consists of 3 to 4 awards of CHF 7,000 for the whole duration of the master program. EPFL wishes to tackle inequalities in the field of robotics. For this reason, we accept applications from female candidates only. Applications will be evaluated on the criterion of excellence.
3. How to apply
Candidates must send their application dossiers to the Robotics Master study advisor (Francesco Mondada : [email protected] )
The application must include the following documents:
• A motivation letter (including a short explanation for the need of financial support)
• A Curriculum Vitae
This award is announced by email to all candidates selected for the master program.
Only candidates already accepted to the robotics master program and having not started it can apply. Only candidates finally registering to the master can receive the award.
Applying to this award does not prevent students to apply to other means of funding, but the recipients of the excellence scholarship of EPFL cannot apply to this award.
4. Selection
Selection is made on a competitive basis by a committee composed by the Robotics Master study advisor and robotics professors.
Selected candidates will be asked to confirm their acceptance (and therefore their registration to the master) within 2 weeks. The awards still available are re-allocated to new candidates.
The payment of the scholarship is subject to the registration to the master.
5. Results
In the academic year 2025-2026, among 24 new students registering to the robotics from another university, 12 were female and 10 were male. This gender parity was reached after years of efforts. Our goal is to stabilize this 50% of external female candidates and have a master where female students feel comfortable and succeed, pushing a long term global trend toward gender balance.
