The project
TROBAK is a project aimed at optimizing the collection and recycling of organic waste. This sustainable energy resource is not sufficiently exploited today. Tons of food and compostable waste are now simply incinerated, thus wasting all the energy potential hidden in this waste because it has been badly sorted beforehand. . . This project, the result of reflection by students from EPFL, HEC Lausanne and ECAL aims to propose a solution to this waste. With two products specifically designed for this purpose, Trobak-Home and Trobak X, this team is working through this project to promote the sorting of organic waste, which, although improving, is currently far below the real possibilities and far from optimal quality.
Trobak-Home
The product for private individuals, Trobak-Home, consists of a box specifically designed to facilitate the sorting of organic waste in households. In order to fight against the inconveniences associated with this type of sorting, several components have been designed: a special powder, completely bio-sourced, allows Trobak-Home to annihilate all olfactory nuisances and insect proliferation, while helping the composting process that will follow. In addition, strategically placed activated carbon filters also contribute to achieving this objective.
Trobak X
The external product, Trobak X, designed for municipalities, eco-neighbourhoods and property managers, allows local waste collection at collection points. Thanks to their technology, no odours will be emitted by these containers equipped with different sensors allowing collection organizations to collect more efficiently. Through the Trobak community, the project’s initiators hope to reach more and more citizens and raise their awareness of adopting a more eco-responsible lifestyle by facilitating the performance of everyday tasks.
Link with the SKIL
During this prototyping phase, SKIL allows us to work under the best conditions thanks to the availability of tools and machines as well as its technical areas. The support and experience of the technicians helps students in the ideation and choice of materials to use and in the application of other technologies.
