NEEC Workshop Oct 2019

Time domain control of atomic shell for
nuclear excitation

Organized by:
Prof. Dr. Fabrizio Carbone

Laboratory for Ultrafast Microscopy and Electron Scattering (LUMES), EPFL, Lausanne, CH

Priv.-Doz. Dr. Adriana Palffy

Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics, Heidelberg, Germany

Workshop Objective:

The workshop aims at bringing together the growing Nuclear Excitation by Electron Capture (NEEC) community to discuss prospects of new experimental techniques for nuclear state control via the coupling to the atomic shell. It will bring together experimental and theoretical expertise at the borderline between atomic, laser and nuclear physics with the purpose of establishing new strategies for NEEC experiments. In particular, laser-induced NEEC scenarios and the opportunity to use ultrashort laser pulses and ultrashort electron pulses of tunable energy to coherently control the atomic state population on the ultrafast time-scale will be discussed.
