LTS5 is a group of researchers led by Prof. Jean-Philippe Thiran, working at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland.

Our main research topics at LTS5 are:


Computer vision and Image analysis:
image acquisition and reconstruction, registration, segmentation, object detection and tracking, behavioural models, anomaly detection.

Medical imaging:
Microstructure imaging by Diffusion MR image analysis: from raw data to microstructure estimation, both in neuron-imaging and oncology. 
Ultrasound imaging: advanced acquisition and reconstruction of 2D and 3D ultrasound images.

Professor Atienza appointed Editor-in-Chief of IEEE TCAD

— Professor David Atienza, Head of the Embedded Systems Laboratory (ESL) at EPFL’s School of Engineering, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief by the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA) for their flagship publication, IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems (TCAD), for the term 2022-2023.

“Mars Mission” attracts more than 700 students from around the world

— The R2T2 Mars Mission is an educational project developed at EPFL for grade-school and high-school classes that use the Thymio robot. A total of 180 teams have signed on to the project, which is teaching the students a variety of new skills.

Large visibility for our project on machine vision with Cortexia

— EPFL-LTS5 researchers have come up with a fact-based system to measure urban cleanliness. Municipal authorities will now be able to draw on objective assessments when planning their street cleaning – a sector with multi-million-franc budgets.

New paper on connectomics published in Nature communications

— The paper on "The challenge of mapping the human connectome based on diffusion tractography" has been published in Nature Communications. This paper is the result of a large international challenge gathering the main groups active in brain connectivity anaylsis by diffusion MRI. Eight members of the EPFL-LTS5 are among the authors of this important paper.
