Coiling instability of a liquid rope

Type: Master’s project

Description:

The flow of a viscous liquid falling on a solid substrate results in emergence of interesting wavy patterns (see fig1). A fascinating example in daily life is when the falling honey  from a spoon coils on bread. In this project we aim to investigate numerically the conditions leading to the coiling of the liquid rope by means of linear stability analysis.
