Technology Commercialization Research Program (TCRP)

As of November 2006, ENTC and the Sol C. Snider Entrepreneurial Research Center at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania collaborate to explore technology commercialization practices and outcomes in the USA, in Europe, and Japan.

This research program is jointly conducted by Professor Marc Gruber, Professor Ian MacMillan, and Dr. James Thompson.

Entrepreneurship by the unemployed

In this international collaboration with Prof. John Dencker at Northeastern University, Boston (previously at the school of labor and employment relations at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign), ENTC studies entrepreneurship by formerly unemployed people. We have done so in collaboration with national unemployment agencies and other policy-makers from Swizterland, France, Germany, Greece and Spain.

This project is a continuation of a study done in 2005, in which the Job Creation Effects as well as the Learning and Adaptation Potential of founders coming from unemployment were analyzed. Our work has been disseminated in workshops with policy-makers and formerly unemployed entrepreneurs, as well as in leading academic journals. Our findings from 2005 were published in the Academy of Management Journal (2009), the Journal of Management (2010) and Organization Science (2009), Strategic Management Journal (2015).

The project has been funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and the Kauffman Foundation.
