Funguys – Mycelium design and Architecture

Website

The Funguys – Mycelium design and Architecture team is an experimental group focusing on the development of a 100% biodegradable, organic and ecological material.

The project
From mycelium (the structuring part of the fungus) introduced into residual plant chips (what is usually considered waste is our raw material), we obtain a light, low density, resistant and shock absorbing solid. Its high insulating capacity having already been demonstrated, however, its possibilities of use remain infinite. Construction, design, packaging, we are looking to develop a stable material that can replace plastic, for example, thus minimizing the ecological impact of these various sectors.
The goal
Through future collaborations, we wish to develop and improve various properties of this recipe. All the objects produced can then be returned to nature, thus starting a new life. We hope that our reflection and research will generate interest and motivation to develop biodegradable and eco-responsible materials among future SKIL actors.
