Tan Toi Phan received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Engineering Physics – Biomedical Engineering from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam National University, in 2015. Following his undergraduate studies, he gained industry experience as a Service Engineer specializing in Neurodiagnostic, Neuromonitoring, and Sleep Diagnostic systems. Driven by a strong research interest, he pursued advanced academic training abroad. He earned his M.Sc. in Advanced Materials Science and Engineering in 2018 and then completed a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering in 2023, both at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), South Korea. Under the supervision of Dr. Jang-Yeon Park, his doctoral research focused on developing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) methodologies to detect neuronal activity in the mouse brain.
Following more than a year of postdoctoral research at SKKU, he joined the Center for Biomedical Imaging (CIBM) as a postdoctoral researcher in December 2024. At CIBM, he works with Cristina Cudalbu to develop diffusion magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (dMRSI) techniques for quantifying brain microstructure by analyzing the mobility of brain metabolites.
