06.06.2023 – Dr. Rafael Vázquez and the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) have been awarded a “Beatriz Galindo” grant from the Spanish Ministry of Universities. Rafael will be appointed as distinguished researcher at the USC, and start working there in September.
   
02.06.2023 – Dr. Pablo Antolin has been awarded a SNF project titled “FLASh: Fast simulation tools for LAttice Structures“.
   
02.06.2023 – Prof. Annalisa Buffa has been awarded a SNF project titled PDE tools for analysis-aware geometry processing in simulation science“. Prof. Annalisa Buffa and Dr. Jochen Hinz are happy to announce the opening of two positions for PhD candidates working on spline-based parameterisation techniques and their applications to plasma physics. More specifically, under Prof. Annalisa Buffa’s supervision, the first PhD candidate will be working on numerical schemes for computing invertible harmonic maps between simply and multiply-connected domains in two and two-and-a-half spatial dimensions. In close collaboration with EPFL’s Swiss Plasma Center, Prof. Annalisa Buffa and Dr. Jochen Hinz, the second PhD candidate will be tasked to develop a robust staggered mesh generator for various geometry types that are frequently-encountered in plasma physics research. All developed techniques will be made available to the scientific community in an open-source Python library.

22.03.2023 – The manuscript “A mathematical theory for mass lumping and its generalization with applications to isogeometric analysis”, by Yannis Voet, Espen Sande and Annalisa Buffa, has been accepted and will soon appear in Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering.

Espen got his Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Oslo in 2019, under the supervision of Prof. Ragnar Winther and Prof. Snorre Christiansen. Since then he has worked as a research fellow (“assegnista di ricerca”) at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, under the supervision of Prof. Carla Manni and Prof. Hendrik Speleers.
