Organised by the UNIL Centre of Competence in Sustainability, the conference “Heatwave 2026: The Coolest Summer of the Rest of Our Lives? Inequalities and Adaptation to Climate Extremes” took place on 27 October 2026. On this occasion, Zélie Cortès has presented her master’s project developed at the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST), which explores the adaptation and renovation of a residential complex in Nyon in response to climate change, with a focus on spatial and social vulnerabilities.

Hypercentre: When the railway station becomes the city

Han van de Wetering, founder of Atelier Corso in Zurich, was invited by Prof. Emmanuel Rey’s studio at the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) to talk about his work as an urban planner on the redevelopment project for Zurich’s central railway station. Entitled "Hypercentre : Quand la gare devient ville", his lecture gave students the opportunity to explore the multiple issues associated with railway stations, regardless of their size.

Award for a master's project completed at the LAST

The work of Melinda Pereira, carried out at the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST), has been distinguished with one of the awards for the best theoretical statement in the master’s program, which was presented to her during the recent 2026 graduation ceremony. Her work focuses on an analysis and architectural strategies for rebuilding the flooded area of Valencia in the aftermath of the disaster.
