In its April-May 2024 issue, Construction & Bâtiment magazine devotes an article to the current challenges facing architectural education. In a world facing many changes, particularly related to climatic, ecological, and social issues, the changing face of the discipline is combined with a teaching approach that seeks to strike a balance between theory, practice, and critical thinking. This article reflects the views of two EPFL students, Camille Rieux and Solène Guisan, and two EPFL professors, Emmanuel Rey and Corentin Fivet.

An ecological footbridge to slow down

The modulart.ch platform, an online magazine dedicated to modular architecture, devotes a report to the fifth edition of the "Sustainable is beautiful" student competition, which focused on the theme of ecological footbridges, in the context of the renaturation of the Chamberonne River on the site of the University of Lausanne (UNIL).

Towards a rational use of resources

Marlène Leroux, partner at Atelier Archiplein in Geneva, was invited by Prof. Emmanuel Rey’s studio at the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) to talk about her work as an architect through a selection of projects. Entitled "Construction durable: Vers un usage raisonné des ressources", her talk allowed students to discover projects that tackled, in particular, the construction and sustainability challenges of using solid stone.
