Dr Marta Divall is Laboratory Manager at EPFL in the group of Prof. Tobias Kippenberg at the Laboratory of Photonics and Quantum Measurements. She has obtained her masters degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Szeged. She carried out her PhD work in Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK (Dr. Ian Ross) and at University of Szeged (Dr. Karoly Osvay) working on the development of high power ultrashort pulse laser systems in the UV regime. She has utilized her knowledge to develop photo-injector lasers for electron production at Daresbury Laboratory in the UK, CERN, where her main research is focused on generating unique burst mode pulse-structures for electron beam combination at 12GHz and Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland, where she was in charge of developing femtosecond resolution timing tools and the active stabilization for the laser systems used in SwissFEL complex.

Biography
Guilherme Almeida is a R&D Fabrication Engineer in the group of Tobias Kippenberg responsible for the fabrication of photonic integrated circuits at the CMi.

He received his M.Eng. in Chemical Engineering in 2011 from the NOVA University of Lisbon performing his thesis project at Imperial College London under the supervision of Geoff Kelsall. He obtained his PhD in 2018 in the group of Liberato Manna at the Italian Institute of Technology on colloidal semiconductor nanostructures for electronic and photonic applications. He then conducted postdoctoral research on III-V quantum dots at TU Delft in the group of Arjan Houtepen at TU Delft, partially funded by major LED companies.

At the beginning of his career, he also worked as a junior researcher in photo-chemistry at the Institute for Chemical and Biological Technology in Lisbon and later as a R&D engineer in transparent electronics at the Center of Excellence in Microelectronics and Optoelectronics Processes, also in Lisbon. Later, he also conducted research at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab as a visiting postdoc.

Biography

During my bachelor’s study, I worked in Kim Kihwan’s trapped ion quantum computing group at the Insitutue for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences of Tsinghua University, China. I primarily worked on cryogenic helical RF resonators, and realizing beam splitter gates for boson sampling using ions’ motional states. Here at LPQM, I am currently working on the generation of non-classical quantum states in macroscopic systems through optomechanical interactions at room temperature, and also chip-based nanophotonic applications.
