Marcus Albrechtsen is a visiting postdoctoral scholar at EPFL in the group of Prof. Tobias Kippenberg at the Laboratory of Photonics and Quantum Measurements, funded by an international postdoc scholarship by the Independent Research Fund Denmark through the University of Copenhagen. His research interests focus on advanced nanofabrication to achieve ultra-low loss photonic integrated circuits. He was previously in the Quantum Photonics group at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen working on telecom quantum dots in GaAs, and he obtained his PhD in 2023 from the Technical University of Denmark, with a thesis on experimental exploration of the fundamental limits of light-matter interactions in dielectrics, specifically dielectric bowtie nanocavities with deep sub-wavelength confinement and mechanically tunable slot-mode waveguides, enabled by his development of a high-performance silicon nanometer-scale fabrication process..
Education
BSc in Physics from the University of Bath (UK) in 2017, MSc in Physics from the University of Copenhagen (DK) in 2019, PhD in Photonics Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark (DK).

Biography
Simone Bianconi is a postdoctoral scholar at EPFL in the group of Tobias Kippenberg at the Laboratory of Photonics and Quantum Measurements. His research interests focus on leveraging integrated photonics for laser ranging and sensing (e.g. LiDAR).
He was previously at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Caltech) as a postdoctoral fellow at the Microdevices Laboratory, where he worked on the research and development of innovative LiDAR and quantum sensing instrumentations.
