As part of the IEEE/ACM Embedded Systems Week (ESWEEK), Dr. Giovanni Ansaloni gave a talk on the following subject:
How do the characteristics of application domains shape optimization strategies for computing architectures?
Dr. Ansaloni examined concrete examples of domain-specific systems featuring (among others) multiple cores, reconfigurable accelerators, near-memory computing and analog crossbars.
In each case, he looked at the rationale motivating the adopted design, reporting the obtained efficiency/performance gains, and debating applicability and design trade-offs.
