A graph-based snapshot of the Swiss job market

If an EPFL student wanted to know which skills are in high demand in the Swiss job market, where would they go? Matteo Giorla, a student working at the CEDE for his semester project, has developed an interactive web app that shows a snapshot of the Swiss job market in early 2017.

The data was collected from 20’000+ job offers found online, analysed using natural language processing algorithms, and split up into hard skills, soft skills, and diploma requirements. The resulting visualisation, in the form of a graph, shows how many times certain skills were mentioned in job offers, and how many times pairs of skills were mentioned together.

Tools like these will allow students in the future to better plan their careers, and policy makers at EPFL to better plan our course catalog and academic activities.
