Soloist competition 2026-2027

Dear musicians,

The Orchestre de Chambre des Étudiants de Lausanne (OChE) is delighted to be organising the eighth edition of its competition for students of the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne. This is your chance to take part in our spring 2027 concerts as a soloist.

Our orchestra is made up of music-loving students and amateur instrumentalists, and has been operating without a conductor since it was founded in 2013. We give you the opportunity to play a programme that is close to your heart, in a close-knit orchestra where a good atmosphere is an important factor. Over the course of the semester, if you choose to participate, you will be asked to take part in a significant number of rehearsals, which will take place on Tuesday evenings on the EPFL campus. Your collaboration with our Konzertmeisterin will be an important part of our work together.

Calendar

The competition is organised in two stages. The first stage is a selection process based on applications, after which five candidates will be selected for the second stage. Then, an audition with piano is organised with our committee. Candidates must bring their own accompanist. The OChE does not offer accompanists.

  • October: Acceptance of applications begins
  • 31st October : Deadline for applications
  • 26th November, 9 am – 12 pm : admission audition at HEMU

Application

The application must include:

  • A motivational letter, explaining the choice of piece you would like to perform with us
  • CV
  • A video recording of a performance that shows you in your best light. Preferably the exposition of the piece you are proposing.
  • The application form

The piece you propose will be a major factor in our committee’s decision. We are a Mannheim ensemble (strings, 2.2.2.2, 2.2.0.0, timpani). There may be differences, but the orchestration must be consistent with our orchestra. We remind you that we play without a conductor. To maximise your chances, find out more about our orchestra. You can find a list of sample works and those to avoid over here.

Conditions of application

The conditions for the competition are the same as for the previous ones: you must be enrolled in at least the third semester (second year) of your bachelor’s degree in an instrument at the HEMU and be a member of the ADE. It is open to all instruments and all periods. Group applications are possible; in this case, a group video is required.

Our spring concerts will take place in May 2027. There will be one concert on the EPFL campus and another at Church St Jacques in Lausanne. More detailed information will be published on our website as soon as it becomes available.

The orchestra committee remains at your disposal should you have any questions.

We look forward to reading your beautiful proposals!
