Summary
Commercial buildings are among the most energy-intensive globally, as their operation is responsible for 8% of the final global energy use. At the same time, they often fail to provide adequate indoor environmental quality conditions (IEQ) for their occupants.
The feedback of the building occupants could be an effective way to optimize the operation of the Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and increase occupants’ comfort & satisfaction. Nevertheless, collecting feedback is a challenging task, as it is often observed a low response rate from the occupants.
In the framework of the HOBO project, an occupant’s feedback mobile application will be developed, which will be able to collect information simple and fast with the goal of optimizing the HVAC operation to provide improved IEQ conditions at the minimum energy cost. The developed app will then be tested in an existing building for proof of concept.
