ELLIS is a European Laboratory whose objective is to gather expertise around Machine Learning and Intelligent Systems. EPFL and the Center for Intelligent Systems (CIS) is one of the selected unit, which is a recognition for the research excellence of EPFL in the area of Machine Learning and Intelligent Systems.
The mission of ELLIS is to benefit Europe in two ways:
- ELLIS wants the best basic research to be performed in Europe, to enable Europe to shape how machine learning and modern AI change the world.
- ELLIS wants to have economic impact and create jobs in Europe, and believe this is achieved by outstanding and free basic research, independent of industry interests.
