THEMA

Theory of Environment and Materials in Architecture

THEMA is a laboratory in architecture at EPFL studying the material, construction, and afterlives of architecture and its entanglements. It is comprised of Assistant Professor Sarah Nichols, researchers Akshar Gajjar, and Marion Moutal, teaching assistant Arthur de Buren, doctoral candidate Tiffanie Paré, administration Valérie Pahud, and, for 2023-24, student assistants Noémie Perregaux and Liran Gil.

THEMA operates both as an acronym (Theory of Environment and Material in Architecture) that describes the scope of ambition for our research and teaching and as a noun (theme) that is used to introduce specific topics under this big tent.
