Postdoctoral Researcher in Urban Studies and Mobility Analysis

The Urban Sociology Laboratories (LaSUR) at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne are inviting applications for a postdoctoral position funded at 80% for one year (renewable), starting in September 2026.

Responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher will be recruited as part of several research projects focused on the analysis of spatio-temporal behaviors and lifestyles. The work will mainly involve quantitative analysis of survey data. The postdoctoral researcher will also participate in the teaching activities of the two laboratories and of the ENAC faculty.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications and skills:

  • Hold a PhD degree
  • Have a strong background in urban sociology and/or urban geography
  • Be proficient in quantitative analysis methods in the social sciences
  • Have skills in spatial analysis
  • Show interest in AI applications in the social sciences
  • Be fluent in French and English; knowledge of German is considered an asset
  • Have an interest in teamwork and interdisciplinary approaches combining social sciences, architecture, and engineering sciences

The Urban Sociology Laboratory (LaSUR)

The Urban Sociology Laboratory (LaSUR) brings together around twenty researchers and doctoral students united by a shared ambition to understand urban phenomena from a social sciences perspective. Located at the heart of École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and the ENAC faculty, LaSUR approaches urban issues through the lens of mobility capacities and the mobilization of urban actors. The laboratory focuses in particular on the social conditions underlying the production and appropriation of cities and territories, in close collaboration with leading partners in engineering and architecture.

Working Conditions

The postdoctoral researcher will be based in Lausanne at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. They will be provided with office space and a workstation, with the possibility of partial remote work.
