Wave winter leisure activities

Leisure activities are an important factor in our travel habits. In order to better understand these trips, two leisure surveys were conducted in 2023, differentiating between summer and winter leisure activities.

General Informations
In 2015, each Swiss resident made an average of 1.3 leisure trips per day, travelling 14.8 km and spending 43 minutes in the country, plus an additional 4.2 km abroad. Leisure trips thus totalled an average of 19 km per day per person, representing nearly 40% of the total daily distance travelled.
The leisure activities of Swiss residents are influenced by various economic, social and territorial factors, reflecting the cultural and geographical specificities of the country. These activities play an essential role in daily life, contributing to individual and collective well-being, while also having significant implications for the economy and spatial planning. In order to better understand the impact of leisure activities on daily travel, LaSUR has devoted two Lemanic Panel surveys to the theme of leisure, distinguishing between winter and summer leisure activities.

Questionnaire
This wave, conducted between March and April 2024, is very similar to the wave on summer leisure activities. It covers daily leisure activities, excursions and short stays, seeking to identify the modes of transport used to reach the locations where these activities took place, as well as the reasons behind participants’ choice of transport mode.

Statistics
As with the wave on summer leisure activities, only residents of the canton of Vaud were interviewed. Once again, men are slightly under-represented, making up 46% of the sample, while women make up 53% of the sample.
