Dr. Ivan Hajdukovic, postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Landscape Development (LAND) at EPFL, presented his empirical research paper entitled “Determinants of energy and material resources productivity” at the 2025 Early Career Researchers’ Conference organised by the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge on May 9th, 2025. The paper is co-authored with Catalina Spataru and Priscila Carvalho from the UCL Energy Institute.
The conference covered a broad range of interdisciplinary topics related to land, energy, planning, sustainability, housing, and urban transformation, featuring fruitful discussions among presenters, discussants, and attendees.
In his presentation, Ivan discussed two dynamic panel data models used to analyse how various socio-economic, environmental, globalisation, technological, regulatory, and policy factors influence energy and material productivity in a panel of 36 countries during the period 2000-2019. He emphasised the importance of carefully monitoring these factors to facilitate the efficient use of natural resources, which is essential for achieving both economic development and environmental sustainability on a global scale.
