PECS

Personalized Environmental Control Systems – systems used for personalized heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, and acoustic control. They allow control of the localized environment at occupants’ workstations according to their preferences, rather than conditioning an entire room to uniform conditions.

According to the convention developed within IEA EBC Annex 87, the PECS devices were categorized into groups per mobility type (e.g., deployment approach):

  • building attached (attached to the building and immobile)
  • building semi-detached (mobile but requires connection to the building by ducts or pipes)
  • building detached (mobile and can be positioned freely in a room)
  • wearables (attached to the human body)
