Research

At EPFL ALCHEMY, we are interested in understanding how to integrate molecular design and materials processing strategies to control material structure and property over multiple length-scales. In doing so, we hope to engineer advanced functional materials and devices that can tackle societal challenges in healthcare, energy, and climate change.

The mission of the lab is to develop Advanced Materials for All; to that end, we are interested in developing accessible chemistries and processing strategies that can enable the fabrication of a wide variety of advanced functional materials and devices. We believe that by democratizing the manufacturing of advanced materials, we can empower both the public and the larger scientific community with the materials needed to solve their own challenges.

Very broadly, the group is interested in developing molecules, materials, and machines that enable the additive manufacturing of weird and difficult materials. Below are some of the research directions that we are currently exploring:

  1. Polymer-to-X
  2. Dynamic Materials
  3. Novel 3D Printers
  4. Microstructured Materials
  5. Precise Polymer Synthesis
