Laboratory for Adaptive Neuromodulation

We build neurotechnology guided by the logic of the circuits it treats.

The Systems for Adaptive Neuromodulations Laboratory (SPARK) is embedded within the Neuro-X Institute at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University Hospital in Lausanne (CHUV) and the .NeuroRestore translational centre at EPFL-CHUV.

Our mission

We focus on the development of neuromodulation therapies of the brain and spinal-cord to alleviate impairments of gait and balance in patients with Parkinson’s disease.

Our goal is to develop therapies that intelligently engage with ongoing pathological neural dynamics, rather than simply override them. To be robust and clinically relevant, treatments should work with the capabilities of the underlying neural circuits, which requires a mechanistic understanding of the neural processes driving both motor function and dysfunction.
