OptiZone
OptiZone is an EPFL spin-off hosted by REHASSIT and supported by Innosuisse. It develops wearable solutions to assess athletic performance and injury risk. In sport world, the ACL injury forms almost 40% of days lost since it sidelines the player for a minimum of nine months and one-third of injured players who manage to return to sport, get injured again. Women are four to eight times more prone to this injury. Across all recorded ACL injuries, 82% are caused by a mechanism called dynamic knee valgus loading (DKVL). To assess DKVL, the player must come to the motion laboratory equipped with infrared cameras and 3D force plates that take a minimum of 2 hours. OptiZone has developed the wearable solution with 94% lab accuracy to estimate DKVL only in six minutes on the pitch. It allows the coaches and medical staff to assess the players in game-like conditions, which is important because: first, the effect of football shoe and the grass is considered, second, they can investigate the personalized effect of fatigue for the players. OptiZone is thrusted by FIFA Medical Center of Excellence and in a longitudinal study with 540 professional football players, they managed to predict the ACL injury with 78% sensitivity and 58% specificity.
OptiZone was born initially in LMAM (Laboratory of Movement Analysis and Measurement)
