LCA study of carbon capture and storage techniques

General information

Type: Semester project
Period: Spring 2022
Project directors: Prof. François Maréchal (IPESE-EPFL)
Assistants: Rafael de Castro Amoedo (IPESE-EPFL)

Project description

The need to curb and promote negative CO2 emissions is leading researchers to assess different capture and storage options. Among those, long-term storage is one of the major alternatives. In this project the student is expected to develop an LCA study on the capture and storage of CO2; a fair comparison between alternatives is expected;

Highlights:

  • Detailed LCA study on both capture (adsorbents, membranes, etc) and storage (mineralisation with different feedstocks)
  • Sensitivity analysis and scenario construction

You should bring…

  • OpenLCA, SimaPro, or other LCA tool is a plus
  • Coding skills (e.g. Matlab, Python) are a plus
  • A high level of motivation to work independently in a structured and organized way.
